First Light Urban Indigenous Health Clinic to begin operations in fall 2026

In fall 2026, First Light will begin operations of the first Urban Indigenous Health Clinic in St. John’s. This clinic will provide culturally grounded primary healthcare services to the urban Indigenous community. See Call for Change 25 for more detail.

NLHS opens new Adult Mental Health and Addictions Treatment Centre with Indigenous ceremony space and Indigenous support staff

In April 2025, NLHS opened a new Adult Mental Health and Addictions Treatment Centre in St. John’s, which includes a space for traditional Indigenous ceremonies, equipped with infrastructure to support as smudging and lighting a kullik. Staff of this facility includes an Indigenous Patient Navigator and a management position with an Indigenous health focus. See Call for Change 25 for more detail.

• Allocate funding in the upcoming funding cycle to support research and evaluation to ensure that Indigenous-specific supports at the Adult Mental Health and Addictions Treatment Centre are appropriately supporting Indigenous patients.
