Liberals Commit to Education Reform, Public Safety, and Indigenous Partnerships

St. John’s, NL – The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is pledging a renewed focus on reconciliation, education, and public safety if re-elected in the upcoming provincial election.

In a statement to First Light responding to invitations sent to all party leaders, Liberal Leader John Hogan outlined a series of commitments aimed at deepening partnerships with Indigenous communities across the province.

A re-elected Liberal government will:

  • Introduce modernized Public Safety Legislation that emphasizes accountability, transparency, and community well-being, and provides pathways for Indigenous self-policing;
  • Make Indigenous history and cultural education mandatory for all students, with new curriculum and courses for elementary, junior high, and high school students;
  • Embed Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing across early childhood, K–12, and post-secondary education systems, in alignment with Education Accord NL; and
  • Work with Indigenous communities to ensure better access to housing, health care, and other essential services, while advocating for increased federal support for Indigenous programs.

“The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador remains committed to walking the shared path of reconciliation and continuing to build a strong relationship with Indigenous communities,” said Hogan.
