Barrier: Need for better cultural safety in workplaces

As noted in the 2024 Reconciliation Report, many employers have not undertaken foundational antiracism training for employees. With misinformation about Indigenous Peoples in NL being widespread in the province (see Call for Change 1), foundational training for employees is a particularly important step in supporting cultural safety for Indigenous people in workplaces. First Light will continue to work toward this Call for Change.

For employers:

  • Foster more inclusive workplaces by undertaking comprehensive training for leadership roles and foundational training for all employees on cultural humility and the histories and cultures of Indigenous Peoples.

Action Area 1: Education, Training, and Employment
