Sisters in Spirit Vigil to Honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People

St. John’s, Ktaqmkuk –  In collaboration with the St. John’s Status of Women Council, First Light will host the annual Sisters in Spirit Vigil on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

Each year on October 4, communities across Canada gather for Sisters in Spirit Vigils. This gathering is a time to honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, to remember those taken too soon, and to stand in solidarity with their families and loved ones.

The event gets underway at 6:00 p.m. Out of respect for families and loved ones, the Vigil will be closed to media, however interviews can be arranged for Friday, October 2, 2026 by emailing [email protected].
