The First Light Indigenous Health Clinic: A Strategic Solution to Urban
Indigenous Health Gaps (February 2026) is a community-designed, culturally safe model of care created to address documented gaps in access, trust, and health outcomes for Indigenous people living in the St. John’s metro region. Rooted in ceremony, Elder guidance, trauma-informed practice, and wraparound supports, the clinic will integrate primary care, mental health services, harm reduction, traditional healing, and system navigation under one roof.
Designed as a turn-key, evidence-backed model, the clinic is projected to serve approximately 1,300 patients annually while reducing emergency department visits and generating system-wide savings. More than a health facility, it represents a strategic, Indigenous-led solution aligned with national commitments to equity, reconciliation, and self-determined health care.
