All of our programs and services are available for all members of the community, regardless of ethnicity, cultural background or cultural identity.
Yes, the First Light – St. John’s Friendship Centre is still a branch of the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) despite its recent name change. All Friendship Centres strive to enrich the lives of urban Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous people alike. Across the country, Friendship Centres provide culturally appropriate services for Indigenous people living in urban centres, and have become a place for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to come together, share traditions, and learn from one another.
First Light now operates seven locations across St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
We are currently headquartered at 70 Brookfield Road. The First Light Child Care Centre resides at 97 Elizabeth Avenue. Our Centre for Performance and Creativity is located at 42 Bannerman Street & 81 Cochrane Street. We also operate the Lunar Inn at 36 Quidi Vidi Road.
Our 40 Quidi Vidi Road and 716 Water Street locations are currently closed for renovation.

Please visit our Get Involved page here to complete the membership form. Membership is completely free and is not required to attend programs. Becoming a member enables community members to vote during our Annual General Meeting.

To book an event or rent one of our multi-purpose event rooms, please contact the Centre for Performance and Creativity staff.
Generally, it is permissible to record/photograph; however, as a courtesy, you must ask the supervising facilitator and/or guest facilitator, as well as attendees. Additionally, please note that certain ceremonies and certain songs do not permit recording/photographing of any kind.
