The Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in caring for these spaces by bringing strong technical skill, practical problem-solving, and hands-on expertise to the Facilities team.
This role is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, repair, and safety of five facilities, ensuring they are well maintained and always ready for community use. From troubleshooting mechanical issues, to carrying out preventive maintenance, to supporting seasonal grounds care and event set-ups, your work ensures our spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming.

You are:
- Experienced with building care, repairs, and maintenance tasks.
- Practical, resourceful, and safety-minded.
- Comfortable working independently, while also pitching in with a team.
- Flexible and able to adapt when unexpected issues come up
You bring:
- Strong hands-on skills with tools, equipment, and general maintenance.
- Proven experience doing maintenance or repair work (professional or personal/community).
- Ability to stay organized, manage time, and balance a busy workload.
- Respect for Indigenous culture and an understanding of how spaces support community and ceremony.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Care & Maintenance
- Carry out regular upkeep and repairs across multiple facilities.
- Troubleshoot and fix issues with equipment, systems, or building needs.
- Conduct seasonal inspections and complete preventive maintenance.
- Support snow clearing, ice control, and grounds care year-round.
Event & Program Support
- Assist with setting up and taking down traditional tents, teepees, and program equipment.
- Provide on-site support to make sure facilities are ready for events, ceremonies, and gatherings.
- Help keep spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for community use.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow safety procedures and use equipment properly.
- Oversee outside contractors when specialized repairs are needed.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work closely with the Facilities team, as well as teams across the organization to coordinate repairs and projects.
- Communicate clearly about facility needs, timelines, and priorities.
- Contribute to a supportive team culture built on reliability and care.
Skills, Qualifications, & Other Information
- Several years of hands-on maintenance or repair experience.
- Strong practical skills with hand and power tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional training in maintenance, trades, or safety is an asset but not required).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Organized, dependable, and safety-conscious.
