Position: Production Coordinator

First Light Centre for Performance and Creativity is a professional arts centre with the goal of supporting and promoting Indigenous Arts, while acting as a resource centre for all local/professional arts by providing affordable, accessible, and well-resourced professional arts spaces, knowledgeable and friendly production staff, and quality equipment. It is home to First Light’s Arts and Recreation team, who serve community members through the delivery of programs in arts, crafts, sports, and lands based activities.
The Production Coordinator is responsible for planning and overseeing the production and technical aspects of all events and special projects at the Centre for Performance and Creativity, including, but not limited to, special meetings, rentals, presentations, concerts, workshops, programs, and dinner events. This will include a combination of administrative, supervisory, and physical tasks such as leading production meetings, creating and executing event plans, securing and negotiating rental equipment, and scheduling staff to carry out tasks like operating sound, lighting, live streaming, projections, dishwashing, and usher services. The Production Coordinator will be responsible for supervising production staff. This includes scheduling, hands-on training, and hiring while fostering an environment of support, mentorship, and growth. The Production Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating external contractors for technical duties as needed, and will serve as the primary point of contact for any unforeseen challenges during event execution.

Essential Responsibilities
- Champion production of all First Light events such as Spirit Song Festival, Songs and Stories Series, National Indigenous People’s Day Celebrations, National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Sisters in Spirit Vigil, External Rentals, and other events as needed.
- Ensure tech support is provided for external rentals at First Light Centre for Performance and Creativity, including concerts, workshops, dinner events, and meetings.
- Supervise Production staff including assistants, technical staff and contractors.
- Coordinate scheduling, payroll processing, and leave requests while ensuring event coverage.
- Proactively maintain and oversee a technical inventory, addressing equipment care and maintenance considering necessary upgrades, repairs, and purchases.
- Lead production meetings with internal and external event teams to create practical and achievable event plans that align with creative and cultural objectives.
- Advise on and foster compliance for Centre policies to ensure the safety and security of the venue and its equipment for users and attendees.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with renters and community partners to encourage client retention, longer term growth and sustainable revenue generation.
- Administratively support the team through reporting on event statistics, planning for technical spending, advising on grants, or other industry related communications.
- Advise on and support funding applications and other organizational writing that assist with the realization of the Centre’s vision.
- Collaborate with fostering communication and funding positioning with organizations such as SOCAN, MusicNL, and the ECMA among others.
Qualifications
- Post Secondary degree or diploma preferred in music, technology, stagecraft, or similar
- Minimum one-year experience in operating live sound, recording, camera operation, AV equipment, lights and/or other event-related technologies
- Minimum one-year administrative-level experience in drama, music, speech, talent booking, arts organizations, or other related fields. Equivalent combination of related experience and/or training and education will be considered
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in working with production technology, troubleshooting and optimizing resources
- Proficiency with the Google suite including Docs, Forms, and Sheets
- Proficiency with graphic design software and website design and maintenance is considered an asset
- Deep knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous culture and communities
- General knowledge of and an appreciation for various art forms such as music, dance, and visual arts
