Position: Early Childhood Educator
Reporting to: Child Development Coordinator
Summary
First Light is a community based, not for profit organization whose mission is to serve the urban Indigenous population, while providing a range of services that are open to all, regardless of heritage.
First Light Childcare Centre programming is developed based on the needs of the individual as well as the groups physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and cultural needs. The Early Childhood Educator plays a critical role with the responsibility of planning and implementing all programming to ensure the health and safety of all children.

Essential Responsibilities
- Support and promote the overall development of children
- Observe and identify developmental abilities of children
- Develop and maintain developmentally appropriate programs (indoor and outdoor) with a large emphasis on incorporating cultural indigenous teachings
- Create daily and weekly documentation on children to provide to parents
- Record incident reports as required
- Administer and record medications given to child as directed (when applicable)
- Diaper changes as required
- Ensure the room is fully cleaned & sanitized at least twice per day
- Report to Child Development Coordinator on a daily basis and address issues/solutions as they arise
Qualifications
- Trainee level or above certified Early Childhood Educator through AECENL
- Valid RNC/Vulnerable sector check
- Valid First Aid/CPR
- Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and practices
- Experience in a childcare setting planning and implementing a variety of programming activities
- Experience working with diverse families
