Location: 70 Brookfield Road 

Summary

The Coordinator of Social Supports is responsible for supervising Cultural Support Workers, providing holistic social support to community members navigating complex social, mental health, and addictions situations. 

Due to the complexity of the skills required for this work, the Coordinator of Social Supports will require a strong background in supportive community work, have experience in mental health and addictions, as well as working with Indigenous people, understanding the legacy of colonialism and its continued impact on those we work with.

Reporting directly to the Manager of Social Supports, the Coordinator of Social Supports will be responsible for supervising Cultural Support Workers, coordinating with community partners, operating within the program budget, collecting and reporting on data as required, and developing supports and processes to meet the evolving needs of community members.

  • Experience managing multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled systems navigator and advocate
  • Knowledge of Indigenous groups within Newfoundland and Labrador and experience working with Indigenous people
  • Knowledge of mental health, addictions, government services, and community resources. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Social Supports Team,providing supervision to staff, maintain financial, and data reporting requirements
  • Support Cultural Support Workers in their one-on-one and group work with the community,providing support and supervision when needed on family, individual and clinical concerns 
  • Work collaboratively across the organization linking social supports to all programs and services,providing a holistic view of social supports including linking internal and community/government programs
  • Build and maintain partnerships with funders and community agencies.
  • Provide expertise in the development of new programs, processes, and services,offering expertise in program development and evaluation

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years in a similar supervisory role 
  • Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Indigenous Studies, or related field and/or combination of Education and Experience
  • Strong knowledge of NL Indigenous culture, traditions, and practices 
  • Team Supervision skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude and commitment to continual process improvement
