Songs and Stories of the Drum

On September 4th, First Light is launching a brand new concert series! Join us for “Songs and Stories of the Drum”, to hear three incredible Newfoundland and Labrador performers, as they work together to highlight the beautiful and contrasting styles of their traditional drums.

Sophie Angnatok from Nain, Labrador, will join us on the Inuit Drum. Kayla Stride of Miawpukek will join us to share First Nations drum songs and stories. Fergus O’Byrne will share stories and songs of Irish Newfoundland tradition, on the bodhran.

This unique concert is the first of four special shows by First Light in the fall of 2021, to highlight cultural diversity in our arts communities, in the spirit of diversity, community, and friendship. This event is made possible by the support of the Government of Canada, and ArtsNL.
